Voter Education with the Interim Independent Electoral Commission

This past Friday, a small group from SNA-K’s Kamukunji team had a workshop with the Intererim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC).

As the Kamukunji by-elections approach (they will take place this Thursday, August 18th), SNA-K is increasing its civic education messaging in Kamukunji in four major areas: encouraging individuals to vote and have a voice, educating voters on the qualities of good leadership and voter bribery, letting subscribers know exactly how things will work on election day, and encouraging unity and an understanding that whoever wins should represent all the people of Kamukunji, not just their particular group or the people who voted for them.

The workshop with the IIEC served two purposes: first, to educate the local SNA-K team on exactly how the by-elections would work and create additional SMS addressing issues addressed at the workshop, and to amplify the IIEC’s impact by bringing their education to SNA-K’s broad audience of subscribers.

The workshop was a great success, and the end result was a schedule of SMS to send to Kamukunji subscribers that combined SNA-K’s original messages with additional messages and information from the IIEC. See below for the scheduled SMS!
